Graduation vs. the real thing
It's been some months and I'm still in the same situation. I'm doing a graduationproject at a company called NDC | VBK publishers. But there's a reason I still haven't finished my graduationproject:
I got into 2 projects!
1. The real thing
Well I guess it's three months ago when some colleagues asked me to write a simple tool to reserve advertisement space. A real assignment.
The case:
For a number of the company's websites there's advertisementspace for rent. Clients call on and off with multiple representatives to rent advertisement space. This was handled and planned in an Excel sheet, managed by one person who took the orders of those representatives to prevent double booking of advertisement space. Inefficiency at work.
The solution:
An online reservation tool for the representatives, who can now see in real time when and if advertisement space is available, for a certain website and for which form of advertisment.
Problem solved! Well this seemed easy at first but was a little more complicated in the end. I finished this application in two months and it is now being tested as I write this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
2. Graduation
Now as far as my graduation project is concerned and the other project is more out of the way, I'm ready to start building the graduation project.
I am going to use the Amazon ECS API (Amazon webservices) with a RESTful Rails application. Rails is not standard issue at Amazon ECS but I found some work-arounds made by other people who probably had common ideas about this combination.
So first I'll try a real simple proof of concept of this. I'll explain and hopefully preview some stuff here. As soon as I figured it all out, that is.
